The magazines and media constantly bombard you with an image that is considered perfect for men and women and they are constantly insinuating that your thin is not thin enough. Quick weight loss diets are constantly being featured in magazines touting lemonade or baby food as the “in” food for those who want to lose weight quickly. And after doing all these you may still wonder, why am I not losing weight? Well, while no one doubts that if you eat only small jars of baby food or drink only lemon water, you might lose weight, it’s not the best regimen for your body and overall long-term health. As soon as you go off these meal plans, the weight is sure to come right back on. Here’s how to lose weight successfully.
Eat the proper amount of food
So, what’s a person to do who needs to lose weight to get back in shape? The first and most important step for most people is to cut down your portion sizes. Over the years, our ideas of what a portion looks like have been shaped by what the restaurant industry has fed us. They’ve encouraged us to super size it for only a dollar more or get the giant tub of popcorn for only fifty cents extra. This has increased our appetites and helped us put on the weight that is plaguing children and adults alike. Even the traditional size of our dinner plates has increased in the past 30 years. To burn fat, we need to cut back on the meal sizes and remember that a portion of meat is the size of a deck of cards, not a greeting card.
On the other hand, some of us may need to actually increase the amount that they eat, and eat at proper times throughout the day. Skipping meals and chronically undereating and starving yourself can lead to your body lacking enough fuel for your body to have a proper healthy metabolism. You feel sluggish and tired, often feel cold, and anytime you do indulge and overeat, your body stores much of that food as fat in anticipation of the next period of starvation.
Stay hydrated by drinking enough water
Another thing we need to do instead of dieting on the side of quick fat loss diets is to drink more water. The soft drink industry has grown rich over the last 50 years as we’ve consumed more and more sugar drinks than anyone would have dared think in the 1950s. The size of the bottle has grown larger and people drink soda instead of milk and water. Parents give their children bottles of juice thinking they’re doing a good thing. While juice, in moderation, is a good thing, it’s still full of sugar. If you want to do your child and yourself a good, drink lots of water. Aim for one litre of water for every 50 pounds of bodyweight.
Move it to lose it
Now that you have your portion size and drinks in order, it’s time to get up off the couch and into the yard, gym or swimming pool. With cable and satellite television offering hundreds of channels for everyone to watch, there’s no wonder our rear ends have expanded. Quick weight loss diets will not help much at all if you’re still sitting on the sofa day in and day out. Instead, with a healthy diet, water to drink, and an exercise routine, you will find yourself with more energy than you’ve had since you were a child and the energy to get up and do things you never had the energy to do before.
